Where Schoharie County Work Injuries Come From
Schoharie County’s largest employers are SUNY Cobleskill, Cobleskill Regional Hospital, the county government in Schoharie, the school districts — Cobleskill-Richmondville, Schoharie, Middleburgh and Sharon Springs — the New York Power Authority’s Blenheim-Gilboa pumped-storage plant, the retail corridor along Route 7 in Cobleskill, and the farms that still define most of the county. Those employers, plus the trucking that moves through the county on I-88, account for nearly all of the cases I handle from Schoharie County.
Campus, hospital and school injuries are mostly lifting, falls on ice and altercations. Farm injuries involve equipment and livestock, and farm workers in New York are covered by workers’ compensation even when the employer says otherwise. Power-plant and highway injuries tend to be serious, and they are the cases where a carrier is most likely to fight over permanency.

I grew up in Syracuse. I received a BA in Chemistry from Wesleyan University in 1996 and an MS in Chemistry from Northwestern University in 1997. I graduated from Cornell Law School in 2001, then worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan.
